Omtrent hierdie toer

Die skouspelagtige groot migrasie van miljoene sebra’s, wildebeeste en ander wild in Oos-Afrika is sekerlik heel bo aan aan die lys van safariliefhebbers.

Elke jaar pak ongeveer 2 miljoen diere en hul suigelinge die lang trek aan.
Die diere se reis begin op die grasvelde van die Serengeti en loop kloksgewys in ‘n siklus, soos wat die weiding en water beskikbaar is, tot by die Masai Mara Nasionale Park in Kenia.

Hierdie reis is vir sommige diere uitmergelend en daar word beraam dat omtrent 250,000 wildebeeste nie die reis voltooi nie.

Day 1: 2 August 2020

Johannesburg – Nairobi

We meet at OR Tambo International Airport at the Kenya Airways check-in counters and check in for our flight to Nairobi.

Day 2: 3 August 2020

Nairobi – Lake Elementaita

After breakfast we drive to Lake Nakuru with a brief photo stop at the Great Rift Valley view point. Check in to our hotel and have lunch. There will be some little time to settle in then head to the park for an afternoon of game drives.

The lake is renowned as ‘the greatest bird spectacle on earth’ thanks to the fishing Pelicans and pink flamingo that flock to feed on the teeming algae of its alkaline waters. Over 400 species of birds can be spotted in this park. The number of flamingos varies with water and food conditions though.

Day 3: 4 August 2020

Lake Elementaita – Lake Bogoria Game Reserve

We depart after breakfast with packed lunch boxes and drive north to Lake Bogoria for a day’s visit. The lake lies in the semi-desert region of the northern Rift Valley close to Lake Baringo. It is a place of great scenic beauty hidden in stunningly imposing hills.

Lake Bogoria is best known for its hot springs and boiling geysers that erupt up to 5m high as well as its millions of flamingoes that reside here. Home at times to one of the world’s largest populations of lesser flamingos that often descend on the lake giving a pink haze to the horizon; you can also catch sight of small herds of Thompson’s gazelles, greater kudu or impalas, warthogs and Zebras.

Return to Lake Elementaita later in the afternoon.

Day 4: 5 August 2020

Nakuru – Maasai Mara Game Reserve

We check out after breakfast and drive to Maasai Mara Game reserve. On route to our camp we stop for lunch.

After lunch, drive to Ashnil Mara Camp with a game drive in the reserve. This will be our home fotr the next 3 nights. Maasai Mara is just one part of the Serengeti- Mara eco-system (or Greater Serengeti eco-system) that stretches from the Mau Escarpment above Kenya’s Rift Valley to the Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania.

Major attractions include the big five – Lions, Elephants, Rhinos, Leopards and Buffalo but also cheetahs, Maasai giraffes and African wild dogs and many other animal and bird species can be spotted.

Day 5-6: 6-7 August 2020

Maasai Mara Game Reserve

After breakfast we enjoy a full day in Maasai Mara with game drives and optional activities such as Hot Air Balloon Safaris.

This is perhaps the only region left in the world where visitors have the opportunity to see animals in the same super-abundance as they existed a century ago. We explore the plains and rolling hills for a chance to spot elephants, black-manned lions, leopards, buffalos, cheetahs, over 450 species of bird and diverse species of hoofed animals.

Day 7: 8 August 2019

Maasai Mara – Nairobi – Johannesburg

Early morning game drive; enjoy breakfast before checking out and making our way back to Nairobi. We check in for our flight back home after a memorable holiday.
